Anne Rongy - Viola da gamba & Artistic direction

After her studying cello and singing at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Brussels, Anne Rongy receveid tuition on viola da gamba from Sophie Watillon, then from Mieneke van der Velden at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam and Marianne Muller at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Lyon. She has also attended courses and masterclasses of Wieland Kuijken, Paolo Pandolfo and Alison Crum. Having interest in earlier repertoires she went on studying medieval fiddle and renaissance viol with Randall Cook at the Schola Cantorum in Basel and recently completed a specialization degree with honours on Italian renaissance viol music (viola bastarda) with Roberto Gini at the Conservatory of Parma.
Anne enjoys working with all kinds of early music ensembles: besides being cofounder of Sestina Consort, she is also exploring the solo repertoire for viola da gamba as well as baroque chamber music with harpsichordist Nathalie Leuenberger, with whom she founded the ensemble Le Nymphe di Rheno. She performs regularly in various festivals and concert series in Europa (including Belgium, Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Norway, Poland, U.K. and the Netherlands) and has taken part in several CD recordings (a.o. for Challenge Records, K617, Xynix Opera) and broadcasts (DRS, RTBF, BRT, France Musique, Arte, ORF, CKRL Québec).
In addition to her musical activities, Anne has a special interest in historical dance, having in 2006 made her debut in a production of Rousseau’s opera “Le Devin du Village” in Solothurn (Schloss Waldegg, Ensemble Cantus Firmus, dir. Andreas Reize) and since then regularly taking part in various dance projects.
